Welcome to EPIC!

How to get EPIC

You can download source code from

Many different OS distributions may offer EPIC4 and EPIC5 binary packages.

What is EPIC?

EPIC is an IRC client for UNIX-like systems (like Linux). It is written in the C language and is published as source code. This source code is compiled on many operating systems and maintained as binary packages. You can get help on #epic on EFNet or on irc.epicsol.org. If you are having a problem with a binary package, please let the maintainer know as well.

You really need a script pack to use EPIC

Without a script pack, EPIC is a faithful replacement for ircII. This won't make you happy. You need to use a script pack. A script pack creates a different (better) user experience that will make you happy. Every script pack is different, because every user is different. Try a few and see what you like! Most scripts are very tweakable to suit your needs.

Why does EPIC exist?

EPIC exists because we want irc to be fun! You can always find a “better” irc client, for some value of “better”, but you probably won't find one that lets you have more fun exploring your geeky tendencies.

Who uses EPIC?

The scripters who are creating irc experiences, and the users who enjoy those experiences. You don't really use EPIC as much as you are using a script. If you have problems using epic, contact the author of the script you are using.

Getting EPIC

EPIC binaries are packaged with most free operating systems. EPIC, as shipped by us, only is released as source code, which you can get via FTP and CVS.

Help with EPIC

EPIC comes with help pages, which you can help us maintain!

This website is very much a work in progress.
